Officials of the British government will be not able to stop athletes importing steroids in London

Officers of the UK will be not able to stop sportspeople importing steroids to the UK, when they come to participate in the 2012 Summer Olympics. However intake of steroids is forbidden in sports, personal intake of these products is not criminal in the UK. Just sale of steroids is claimed to be illicit in this country. Thus, if somebody wants to import amount of anabolic steroids that is essentially large, he/she will not be allowed to do it.
Before Olympics took place in Australia, Canada and China, governments of these countries changed legislation linked with import and administration of steroids at least temporally. But the British government doesn’t agree to modify steroid laws for the 2012 Olympics.
Ironically, while the British government doesn’t desire to make self-administration of steroids illicit, Britain athletes are banned for lifetime, if they administer anabolic steroids. When it comes to the WADA Code, athletes who use banned medications are banned for two years.
Hugh Robertson, the Olympic minister, notices that it is important to have a universal policy linked with sentencing. He insists on at least four years or even longer.  However this minister is supported by the British Olympic Association, the UK Anti-Doping Agency doesn’t support such harsh sanction. Andy Parkinson, the CEO of the UK Anti-Doping Agency, thinks that some sanctions should be milder.
The Olympic minister acknowledges that there are various opinions in sports and it’s not well but he doesn’t ask Andy Parkinson to resign.
The spokesperson for the minister has claimed that any athlete can have steroids in his/her luggage, when he/she comes to London. But the quantity of steroids should demonstrate that he/she has them just for personal usage. The spokesperson has noticed that it is not illegal for a sportsperson to administer steroids under laws of the UK but if any athlete is caught using forbidden preparations, he/she will be punished under anti-doping laws.
The UKAD claimed that they would cooperate with border control officers. Information about athletes will be utilized by anti-doping officers.
5, 000 drug test, including 1, 000 blood tests will be conducted by the International Olympic Committee.
